Moyra started working with comunities in 1993 on the Chidren's Festival of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, a spectacular outdoor one day free event for children which offers children the opportunity to play with a wide variety of arts techniques.After doing this and other yearly one-day big events for 8years. she decided to pursue resident opportunities as a way of seeing the product of large events being finished and installed. In 1999 she completed a residency with Britannia Community Centre in Vancouver. 700 children and adults made tiles at workshops and public events which were mounted on panels for the centres courtyard. After moving back to Scotland she made a tile panel with the children of Newburgh for the renovation of the Livingstone Fountainin 2004, children in the primary school competed to produce the designs for the large tiles then made the winning tiles which were selected by a local committee All the children wrote their names in clay on the edge tiles. In 2005 a residency with Forfar primary schools produced themed work ....Noah's Ark,Underseaworld, Pictish Houses, Aliens etc,with children aged 5 - 10 where Moyra worked with pupils in 5 classes for three weeks. |
